From Cybershop to Digital Innovation

Started in Meru, Kenya in 2021 • Now building the future of African social commerce

Our Evolution

Empath Software began as a small cybershop in Meru, Kenya in 2021, where we first observed the digital needs of local businesses. Through direct interaction with entrepreneurs and sellers, we identified the challenges they faced in the digital space.

This hands-on experience inspired us to expand into web and mobile development services, helping businesses establish their digital presence while continuing our research into the unique commerce patterns of African markets.

During my time running a small copy shop in 2021, I noticed my neighbors, mostly fashion sellers, were posting products daily on WhatsApp Status. This observation sparked the idea for LoopSell after years of research and development.

About LoopSell

Understanding the problem and our unique approach

The Problem We're Solving

Despite the popularity of Facebook Marketplace, TikTok, and e-commerce sites like Jumia, young African sellers continue using WhatsApp because it's personal, trusted, and grounded in real-world contacts.

Key Pain Points Identified

  • Status posts only reach your contacts; many potential buyers are missed
  • Sellers struggle to post frequently, track engagement, or categorize products
  • Communication after interest is fragmented (DMs, calls), and payment trust is a concern
  • Sellers post both for sales and to feel connected or visible in their network

"It should reach a lot of people without them even being in my contacts." — Fashion seller during research

These insights exposed a gap in the African social commerce landscape: existing platforms are either too large and impersonal, or too rigid to match sellers' habits. Young sellers need social-first commerce that mirrors WhatsApp's familiarity but amplifies reach and usability.

Our Unique Insight

WhatsApp Status works because it is trusted, social, and personal, not because it is scalable. Sellers value relationships more than features, but current platforms do not support discovery beyond immediate contacts.

LoopSell is built to combine social trust with broader reach and commerce tools, enabling sellers to monetize networks without losing familiarity.

Market Opportunity

  • Informal e-commerce and social commerce in Africa is growing explosively; millions of young sellers use WhatsApp daily
  • Mobile penetration and payment adoption (M-Pesa, Visa, and other fintech platforms) enable frictionless transactions
  • There is no dedicated social commerce platform designed for African cultural and business behaviors
  • TAM (Total Addressable Market) is projected in the multi-billion-dollar range for social-enabled commerce in Africa

LoopSell Vision

Our path to transforming African social commerce

Our Vision

LoopSell is the first step toward a pan-African social commerce ecosystem, where sellers can grow their businesses effortlessly, buyers discover products organically, and social connections drive commerce naturally.

Roadmap / Go-to-Market

Launch Phase (December 2024)

  • Official launch of LoopSell v1.0 on December 1st
  • Initial user acquisition in Kenyan markets
  • Gather user feedback for iterative improvements

Growth Phase (2025)

  • Expand to other East African markets
  • Implement AI-driven features and payment integration
  • Establish early monetization via transaction fees

Scale Phase (2026+)

  • Pan-African expansion
  • Advanced commerce features and analytics
  • Partnerships with major payment providers and logistics companies

Defensibility

  • Unique combination of social trust + commerce workflow tailored to African behaviors
  • Proprietary knowledge of seller habits, WhatsApp usage, and engagement patterns
  • Minimal friction for sellers to adopt — familiar interface plus extended reach

Why Now

  • Status-based selling is growing but fragmented
  • Social commerce is underdeveloped in Africa, while payment and mobile infrastructure is mature
  • Meta platforms dominate globally, but none are culturally tuned for local social commerce habits
